New Mexico BEAD/BOB 'Savings' Consistent with Many Western States
Much like counterparts Montana (64%), Oklahoma (67%), and Washington (68%), New Mexico’s bargain shopping only saved a third or so of original allocation. New Mexico proposes today in its draft final proposal to allocate $432,974,698, which is 64% of the state’s original allocation. Funding is slated to reach 43,274 BSLs.
The projects’ technology breakdown is fiber (44%), fixed wireless (40%), and LEO (16%).
New Mexico has preliminarily approved 32 projects for BEAD funding to 17 entities:
9 internet service providers and low Earth orbit satellite companies
5 cooperatives
3 Tribal communities
Reached for comment, New Mexico’s BEAD Coordinator, Andrew Wilder, said… “We are proud to release the draft final proposal for public review. The proposal is the result of years of effort and takes into account rapidly changing requirements since June. We are awarding a mix of technologies proposed by diverse providers from throughout New Mexico and the nation. This gets us closer to universal connectivity. The Office of Broadband will continue to focus on our most rural households and small businesses to ensure they have future-proof connectivity to succeed into the 21st century.”
